As reported by one of the local newspapers in Victoria:

Scuba diver's body found off Cape Paterson, 150km southeast of Melbourne

Unfortunately, no real details as yet. Hopefully we will learn a bit more in time.

The 35-year-old Gippsland man was diving with a friend at the Bay Beach also known as Safety Beach, when he got into difficulty shortly before 10am.

Wonthaggi Sergeant Andy Boldiston said the man was unconscious when divers dragged him from the water near the Wonthaggi Royal Life Saving Club.

He said paramedics and divers performed CPR in an effort to resuscitate the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
One local resident, who didn’t want to be named, said the incident happened at a popular dive site 100m off shore.

“There weren’t many people on the beach when it happened, but there was a group of divers out early,” she said.

“There is an area off shore which is rocky and it is a popular place for people to learn to dive.”

The incident happened before lifesavers started their morning patrol.
