Does anyone know if there is diving from Ebeye in the Marshall islands? I would like to make a stop in Kwajalein on the Micronesia island hopper but since I have no way of being sponsored as a guest to the military base, I realize my only option for a stopover is Ebeye.

I have done a fair bit of research and understand that Ebeye is not a typical dive destination. I am aware of the austere accommodation options, power outages, water issues, potential health issues etc. Nonetheless, if it is possible to dive from here I would like to visit.

The question is can I go diving? I am grateful for any suggestions or advice.

I found your old post here - we are in the same situation now . Did you get anything worked out those days? We want to dive the Prinz Eugen only and the Bikini liveaboard is not an option. Thanks.

Having just got back from Ebeye (and a couple weeks in Bikini)...
There is no diving op in Ebeye. Only a Hotel, a few local markets, we did find one bar that was well stocked in both Bud and Bud Light.
There is a dive op on Kwajalein from my understanding. As you know there isn't lodging on Kwaj without sponsorship. But the two islands are fairly close to each other.

I don't know the dive op out of Kwaj, but contact them. Even though you won't be staying on that island, they will be who would go through. I suspect it would be they pick you up at the dock on Ebeye and drop you off there again. There is also an airplane graveyard that we never stopped at, but I hear is good.

I wish I knew about the bar stocked with Bud and Bud Light when I spent a couple of nights there in June. The bar at the hotel never seemed to be open.

The hotel bar was only open Friday night.

The other bar is south of the hotel, turn right down an alley then left again. A little further south. When you find what looks like a liquor store, it is the door to the left of that.

Or just go to the triple J and buy some Dester, better choice.

One of the best memories of the trip was coming back from that bar. It was Friday night. There was a large group of kids (early teens) all gathered on the side of the road/sidewalk/maybe a yard. They were all gathered around watching something. One lone cell phone light was providing illumination. What on earth could be captivating all these kids on a Friday night in a little Pacific island? They were playing chess. Blew me away. I would never have guessed it.

There is a guy in Ebeye with compressors and tanks who might be able to take you to the Prinz Eugen. If there is any interest i can try to get his contact details.

The dive operator on the Kwajalein army base will not be able to offer dive services to someone staying on Ebeye, due to business license issues, etc. The base is a completely different economic and immigration zone, base workers actually have to be sponsored by an Ebeye resident to visit Ebeye.

Good info. I knew they kept people off the base, didn't know they also kept people on the base. With as much as the ferry runs I figured it was a little more free to travel. Guess I was wrong.
