Hello Divers,
Women to Women, does anyone have any tips to share with regards to diving when you have your period? I've never gone before, but i have an oppurtunity next week, but alas i have my period. Do you think swimming would actually help cramps? Does anyone know if its a bad idea to to take advil before diving? Any tips would be appreciated!

There are many threads on this topic, and you will find useful information if you search.
I never consider menstruation to be a factor at all when I dive. If it's time, I take care of it and dive. If I need advil, I take advil and it's okay.

...I guess I'd never even considered it. I usually take tylenol instead of advil, since advil thins your blood, but admittedly advil takes care of the pain better. To be honest, there's nowhere I'd rather be than in the water with a tank of gas strapped to my back when I'm feeling that crummy...

Just my $.02. Happy (and safe) diving, regardless of the time of month!!!

Ask youself, Am I Active or not? IT depends on "YOUR" own activity during that time of month. Only you know your own body! Can you get around and do things or does your period have you down and in misery? If cramps are always bad the 1st day and better then next day wait till the second day to dive. You want to be comfortable while diving. You want your mind on diving not your period and the cramps. Does exercising normally help you get rid of cramps? If taking Advil or Tylenol normaly helps with the Cramps then by all means go for the dive. Just ask yourself "What do I normaly do while having my period?" "How do I normaly feel?" I went diving during my Aug Period, ( A newbie to diving) I took an Advil for minor cramps an hour before the dive, I felt wonderful during the dive,No problems.
Hope this helps you out? Turtle Gal
