Hey if anyone could refer me to someone who would be willing to take me n a scuba/spearfishing trip I would appreciate it.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong. Spearfishing is not permitted on SCUBA in Cozumel (or Playa). It can only be done freediving and you would need a license. The license is only given to local fishermen.

Talk to Aldora Diving or Pelagic Adventures out of Coz.

Both will want to see your diving skills first. The area they go to is north, out of the park and has some extreme conditions at times.

I went North with Pepe's Scuba out of the Coral Princess and the DM was spearfishing on the trip, the site was Barracuda (I think). He got some pretty big fish and it was cool to watch.

It might have looked cool but I'm pretty sure it was illegal unless he was freediving during the surface interval. I have seen the locals doing it from a dinghy and it's amazing how deep they can go. They are usually very selective and more often than not can get what they are looking for. It's a tough way to make a living!!

I saw some kids spearfishing while snorkeling from shore close to the Coral Princess.

I think you are right about freediving only. Here is a link to one of the guides down there. Spearfishing Cozumel - The Ultimate Adventure

I can't vouch for him though. He was commented on a board related to cozumel. My Cozumel Community - Index

I've been spearfishing with him. If you schedual a trip with him, he'll set up a time to meet him and get you a license. Hes very good, and the trip was awesome. When we went we got a few gray triggerfish and a greater amberjack. There is no spearfishing while on compressed air, so free diving is your only option. and they take you to the far north end of the island so your out of the marine park. It was alot of fun.
