Imax movie 3D Under the Sea. Not a dive film, but nice.

Ok, I know I'll catch hell for this...but I did enjoy watching Jessica Alba and friends in Into the Blue -- the treasure hunting story was of course far-fetched but the flick did spend quite a bit of time spent under the water.

go ahead, remind that it's impossible to breathe directly off an AL80 and swim through a sunken cocaine-filled plane...but I still enjoyed it in the theatre

I actually really enjoyed it as well ... if only for the scenery, and no - I am not talking about Jessica Alba's scenery. I don't remember the bit about the AL80 breathing. Might have to watch it again.


As for movies, I really liked The Big Blue with Jean Reno. I am a big fan of him, and of Luc Besson. As well, Luc Besson's movie ATLANTIS is beautifully done.

A great non fiction going back to the way early days is The Terrible Hours by Peter Maas. It's the story of the sinking and salvage of the submarine USS Squalus off Portsmouth NH in the 1930s. If you don't know who Swede Momson is, you should.

I agree that Diver Down should be required reading. Real world cases of what went wrong and how to avoid it.

I also like Shadow Divers.

There was a movie out from the UK in 1989 called "The Dive". It's about commercial divers and it's totally fiction, but if you know anything about diving it is an absolute riot

Sarita....the scene I'm talking about occurs in the first half of the movie....Paul Walker realizes that the blonde chick is trapped down in the plane in an air pocked, so he dives into the water with just a tank and on his way down to the plane he turns on the valve and breathes DIRECTLY from the tank, without a first or any type of regulator...seems like this would be near impossible on land, let alone 30-40 feet deep. check it out!

Also loved "Shadow Divers" and another book "Diving the Andrea Doria"
