Ok so a long time ago there was a movie passenger 57. I've heard from hearsay that the boeing 747 from that movie that they sunk in the lake is in chicago and you can dive it.I just want to know if anyone on here has dove it and exactly where its at!!! Was a very good movie by the way.

Are you sure Passenger 57 was a 747? I thought it used a L-1011 ?

As far as I know, there aren't any 747's that are acessible dive sites. Unless the one that was in the movie Airport 77 was actually sunk somewhere. But I think most of that movies underwater scenes were filmed in springs.

Other aircraft sunk are below. maybe you are confusing it with Wesley Snipes in US MARSHALLS.

there is a 727 sunk in Merrit springs from the movie US marshalls.

You can dive a 727 off the coast of Miami.

There is a 737 sunk as a reef off Vancouver island.

No its the passenger 57 plane..i've heard its somewhere in chicago. The U.S. marshall plane would be a good one too though.

The actual plane used for filming may have been a 747. My guess is that they would use the fuselage on a set and it's probably easier to film inside a huge 747 vs. most other passenger jets.

I toured Universal Studios about 25 years ago. I believe the plane for Airport '77 was a Concord. Regardless, the fuselage was featured on the tour and was semi-submerged in a lake on a back lot. That's where they did the filming. Concord or not, that was certainly the plane in the water movie.

Airport 77 was definately a 747. I remember the water running down the steps from the upper deck of the aircraft when it was flooding.

IMDB states it's 747 also

The underwater scenes were filmed at Wakulla Spring.in Florida. It doesn't appear that a "whole plane 747" was sunk anywhere for it. I'm sure the "whole plane" shots were scale models that were sunk. Pretty common special effects in that day. (that's how all the Star Wars space scense were done then, with models).

1976 Airport '77 Filmed
Scenes from the movie Airport '77 starring Jack Lemmon were filmed at Wakulla Spring. The filming included placement of an elaborate 70-foot mockup of a 747 jet into the spring basin. This was one of the last Hollywood films shot at the Wakulla Spring.

It appears that there were several errors in this movie. The orignal script for the movie was to have used a 747. (see script http://www.scifiscripts.com/msol/passenger57.html ) However, the movie was filmed with a L-1011. (see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105104/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passenger_57)

Even though they used a L-1011, they still refered to it in the movie in one scene as a 747 (see http://www.moviemistakes.com/film955/corrections)

I've never relied on the 'movie industry' to bother with getting all their facts right.
