I know it's not real close to blue water, but is there any diving to be done around Vegas? Lake Mead is close but is it all boat diving? Anyway if anyone knows of any place close or has any plans I will have my gear with me and am looking for a diving excursion.

Im definitely interested...i found this beach dive at nps.gov...# Dive Park (North Boulder Beach): just north of the designated swim beach, gentle slope to 70 foot depth, good training site, visibility seasonally fair to good. Access by vehicle or boat. Boat traffic restricted to dive support vessels. Also, five to ten vessels or other objects have been placed on the bottom for fun and training. Objects are marked with yellow buoys. PM and we can chat about details if you are interested

In about 4+ hours you can be in the LA area with plenty of diving both shore and boat. Check the
SoCal forum both here and on the Dive Matrix for more local help.

Generally the viz is better at Lake Mohave. It is farther south than Mead. I haven't seen anything about this year (we did have some good winter snows that fed the Colorado River) but the water level at Mead has been significantly down over the last decade due to the drought. I'd check with one of the Vegas dive ops for current conditions. Some general info:

http://www.desertusa.com/colorado/lm_nra/lake_mead/du_meadscuba.html

Lake Mohave Scuba lists current temps/vis on their website:

Current Dive Conditions as of 11/09/10:

Lake Mohave, AZ - 69°F with 65 ft. Visibility
Lake Mead, NV - 63°F with 30 ft. Visibility

I'm used to Texas lakes so anything over 10-15 ft. is great! Thanks all for the info.

rocknroll, I'll PM you and see if we can work something out for Mead or Mohave.
