Is there any protocal or guidelines for diving and donating blood or blood products within 24 pre or post dive?
I have donated the next day after a shallow beach dive, but am wondering if there are any implications to donating and deep diving.

I wouldn't think there would be any problems with donated AFTER diving.

Donating blood puts you in volume-depleted state. Volume depletion, or dehydration, can predispose to DCS. Given a good intake of oral fluids and adequate salt, that should be corrected after 24 hours, but I'd certainly wait at least that long.

I give blood every 8 weeks and have given it the day before and the day after with no ill effects. As always with giving blood (and diving), drinking plenty of fluids is the key.

I give blood regularly and have to schedule my donations around my diving schedule. I generally don't donate the week prior to diving (longer for bigger dives). I'm frail and dainty :D , so I sometimes bruise after giving blood, so I like to have a little time to recover. The bruising doesn't happen often and I don't think it would seriously interfere with my diving, but I just like the peace of mind.

After diving, I usually wait a day or two before giving. Again, it's just peace of mind.

Concur 100%.

i WOULD NOT ACCEPT A DONOR THAT HAD DOVE ON THE SAME DAY, AT LEAST 24 H, ALTHOUGH THERE´RE NOT GUIDES ON THE TOPIC.

I've been a regular blood donar longer than I've been a diver. When I first started diving, I never gave it a thought. I never have any side effects from donating. I never kept track of when I donated with relation to when I went diving. As I became more interested in decompression theory, the possibility of a DCS hit after a donation was something that came to mind. In 1989 (possibly '88) at a YMCA Convention, I asked a DAN representitive, Joel Dovenbarger, this same question. He advised me to wait 48 hours after donating. Apparently, they are now recommending a 72 hour wait. I've followed this practice of waiting 48 hours from that time until recently with no ill effects. For the past couple of years scheduling has prevented me from following a 48 hour rule, it's usually closer to 34 - 36 hours when I make my first dive.

i am getting quezzy just thinking of donating blood after diving, think im going to faint.................
