I just moved to Marseille, definitely an under-rated diving destination.
It offers very good water visiblity almost year round, a National Park with a MPA (400% biomass increase in 13 years) and many shipwrecks.
A book lists more than 90 histporical ship and plane wrecks in the vicinity of Marseille.
Better dive it in summer (18 to 25 Celcius) the water gets relatively cold in winter. (13 degrees Celcius)
Only around the lighthouse featured in this video, there are 5 wrecks (3 ships and 2 WW2 planes)

The Chaouen is one of my favourite wrecks of all time. We used to dive it on a boat out from Carry-le-Rouet.

A lot of the tourist dive centres are set up to dive "pretty" sites and not so much the wrecks. A real shame - as you say - it is a great venue.

Enjoy.
