I just don't log dives
I imagine it goes like this: I am in the water. Somewhere nearby is the largest animal that has ever existed on earth - and it's singing.

This is the definition of peak experience for me. Even if I can't see a blue whale, I'd love to hear one. The closer the better.

I know of places where you can dive with humpbacks. Is this feasible with blue whales anywhere? Does anyone have recommendations?

I'd also live to hear stories if anyone has had the pleasure of whale song underwater. I really want to do this someday.

Thanks, all!

Don't know the answer, but here's a suggestion. Research their migration routes and then determine whether or not there are nearby dive boats that can get you within singing distance. I've not seen blue whales, but did see large finback whales not too far off Cape Cod. They would have been accessible to divers.

You can dive with Humpback mothers and calves in Tonga. The NAI'A is a fantastic boat that runs trips there that are booked years in advance. We went a few years ago. However, we had a catastrophe when a freak storm put her up on the reef in the middle of our second night out. We spent the rest of our time in Tonga at a little resort that took our band of refuges in until we could get flights out back home. We did some reef dives out of that resort and we could hear the whales singing all through every dive....it was magical! NAI'A is back at work, fully refitted and better than ever from what we hear. We hope to go back and try again sometime in the future.

Happy dreams!

Jim
