I recently went to an ENT after having some problems with my right ear and he diagnosed me with Otosclerosis. One of the options is to have a Stapedectomy to repalce the stapes bone. I have been diving for two years and recently moved to South Carolina from the midwest. I really enjoy diving and do not want to give it up.

I asked the Dr about diving after the procedure and he reccommended against it. I am looking for a second opinion since the doctor does not deal with divers.

Can anyone help me out with this question?
Thanks

Its not contraindicated once full healing is achieved. However, there is a risk after the procedure that something can go wrong that could preclude all future diving. As it stands now, you can dive without issues with otosclerosis.

As a diver, I would avoid any surgery on my middle ear, unless absolutely needed.
