I'm told to drink plenty of water for the next few days after a massage (full body and/or deep tissue) to help expel the toxins that are broken up by the massage. Would diving within 24 hours have any impact on my body?

Massage is great, but this claim is of some debate. Read http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=602783 for more info. Though it focuses on lactic acid and muscle soreness, it does discuss the "toxin removal" claims of massage therapists.

Deep tissue massage can certainly make you very sore, and I'd play it the same way as if I had a hard workout the day before. If you wake up the morning of a dive and feel great, go for it. If you feel run down or out of sorts, skip it.

Great! I hope you both find the information useful.

Cameron - do you have any thoughts on the transverse?

Massage after diving?

Mild vs. deep tissue? Any studies on this one? If not... you have a volunteer (to receive)

You can bet that there aren't any studies on this, but there certainly would be a lot of volunteers. <g> To be honest, I don't really know. It's reasonable to guess that the forces of massage could cavitate gas out of solution, so I'd play it like exercise and wait 6 hours afer diving.

That, though, is a complete and utter guess.
