Who really cares? Perhaps they both used the same web designer. There are many more important things going on in the world today.

It was just an observation. The "look" of a website can create brand recognition and I just though it was interesting that of all the possible color palettes out there Divetank chose (or approved if there web designer chose them) one almost identical to LP. I apparently have too much time on my hands.

What most people don't realize is that there are a few major "shopping carts" that both small and large internet resellers use. These come set up out of the box and your basic web manager merely updates them with your design choices and options. Expect to see more and more large retailing web sites looking similar as online retailing increases. Its easier to buy a shopping cart then to design one (That actually works anyway).

I see lots of etailers using those canned shopping carts but I don't LP is one of them. I've never seen another one quite like LP's. Other than the colors, I see no similarity between the LP and Divetank websites.

Perhaps "clone" wasn't the best word choice. I just thought it strange of all the possible colors and color pallets, they chose one very similar to one of the largest online diving retailers. Particularly the big orange box.

Even SB is a canned package that's configured to be as we know it. Depending on which mode you are running in it can look much like other online forums.

There comes a point when designing from scratch makes no sense.

It doesn't surprise me. There have been lots of studies into how colors affect consumer decisions, and you'll find the same oranges and blues on Amazon as well.

I think LP has better visual contents and functionality. I do like some of the prices on Divetank. However, like all web sites, you have to compare pricing. Then think about shipping and service after the sale. I prefer to pay a bit more at my LDS. This helps the local economy and keeps them in business so when I need service, they are there to help.

Hi guys,
Recently we have noticed that a few online dive shops are using a layout similar to ours, it lets us know that we are on the right track. As they say “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. It’s nice to know that even our competition likes our site and that we are providing our customers with a cleanly laid out and appealing web site.
