As we got slammed by surf trying to reach the buoy on Sunday, and the dives were trashed, I am up for something this Saturday. I am thinking of Crystal River. Any ideas?

Looks like Salt Springs run will be the targeted site this weekend. It says $4 for parking, and is just outside the park on the main run! There is a lot to see in the way of wildlife and fishing. It has a swimming area, and is a great launch site for kayaks and boats. Since it is right at the mouth of the run, it is very clear, and the run is four miles to Lake George. If all goes well we should be there by 9 am or so.

I'll be at Ginnie this Sat. with a bunch of people carving pumpkins underwater. Mayby someday we'll get together to do-a-dive

Right now, cost is an issue. I am saving money to buy gear to complete my setup. I need two tanks and regs. Aside from that, I have everything I need and will start collecting annual permits to State Parks and Ginnie. Then I will be a frequent fixture of those locations. We'll be doing the Salt Springs Marina tomorrow as it's only 4 bucks for parking and allows us access to the entire 4 mile river run.

Here is the site. It is NorthWest of Ocala in the National Forest.

Here are a few links...

Follow 316 DUE East from 301 @ Citra coming from the North. It will dead end. Turn Right and Salt Springs park is on the left. Continue past the park on 19. Just a short distance on the left is a sign for the Salt Springs Marina. The cost is 4 bucks for parking and you basically launch right into the river run, just outside the Park.

SCUBA is not allowed inside the park, so you have to get in at the marina.

If coming from Ocala on 301, turn right onto 40, then left on 314 (Salt Springs Highway) DO NOT turn off onto 314-A from 314. Then after you end up on 19 look for the signs for the Marina. The marina entrance is SOUTH of the park entrance. if you see 316, turn around.
