I'm looking to buy my first BC, finished AOW and trying to dive once a week. Currently just rec stuff, single tank. I'm doing a wreck course in a few months and I'll likely get into more technical diving soon. After some reseearch, I think I would like to get a BP/W (Transplate) or possibly a Transpac II. For diving singles, either get a Trek wing or a Venture wing. Anyone have suggestions on which to get for the time being? Once I get into doubles etc I plan to get a bigger wing.

Thanks for the input.

Mike

According to the distributor of DiveRite in Thailand (when I made my research before getting my own setup), the Venture Wing and Travel Wing is somehow identical in terms of performance-the lift capacity is the same. But for BP, Venture is recommended and Travel Wing is preferred for TransPac II. I understand that the real difference is in the center construction of the wings.

But I do not have 1st hand experience on them as my setup is with RecWing. Just think I might be able to share something I know.

Ciao.

I tried a TransPac before moving to a plate and wing. The Transpac kind of rolled around and was not secure when diving. I then tried out a friends BP and what a difference. If you are popping the bucks for either, go with the plate. I use the VENTURE wing and like it well enough. If you are warm water diving, the smaller travel wing is probably the better choice. The Venture wing does, however, float you high in the water at the surface. With my Fuji/Aquatica rig, that is a plus. If I was diving a smaller camera, the Travel Wing would be fine.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Dive Rite, OMS, and all the others are just fine.

My vote...and dollars....went with the TransPlate.

I've got one of each ... and prefer the TransPlate.

In fact, I'm thinking to sell my TPII harness, since even my pool work is done in the TransPlate these days.

There are those that think the continuous webbing is the only way to go....and thats fine for them. There are others that know they will never ever have 2000 bottles hanging off them at 5000 feet depths so the worry.....be it real or not.....that quick releases spell instant death mean little.

I have the adjustable harness with quick releases and I find it very easy to get into and out of no matter what clothing configuration I am wearing. Its all in what you do....what crowd you hang and dive with.....and your strength under criticism from those that like to control

I'm really leaning towards the Transplate at this point. Start with some Rec wings for single tanks, move on from there.

Anyone know if the DUI weight harness works well with this setup? I don't want to use the dive rite weight pockets as I'm hoping to have the space for an equipment pocket (I remember reading on this board that it was one or the other, not enough space for both). I need a fair amount of weight (dry suit).
