Hello everyone! My name is Tracy, male, married, 43, OW and AOW PADI certified; currently enrolled for Rescue Diver at Loves Park Scuba in Rockford IL. I would absolutely love to get enough dives in at Pearl Lake to actually think about earning Master Diver in 2 to 3 years; but, I need a dive partner with similar goals. If anyone dives in the midwest and frequents Pearl Lake in South Beloit that needs a partner, or knows of a diver that needs one, could you please drop me a line? Thank you very much! :D

Happy Bubbles!

I am new to the site and to diving. As new as you can get, I am getting certified memorial day weekend. I know it is new and all but am looking forward to getting into diving. My dad has been a diver for about 25 years and I never got into when I was younger. I like to think I will do plenty of local diving such as at Pearl and at Haigh quarry. I will probably go when the dive shop Senrty Scuba (Moline, IL)has there check out dives. I don't have a permanent buddy that I will always go diving. So I may be looking for people in the same situation looking for a buddy to go diving to get in the water. I have no idea when I will be able to get out, but first time on site and found your post. Weekdays are even better for me since I am off from work a lot on weekdays and my wife is off on weekends. Although I already told here about the swimming beach and campground at Pearl for nondivers to enjoy.
So my fingers go running and a lot to read, but Hello!

Illinoisdiver Hi!
I hope to spend a great deal of time at Pearl Lake. At Pearl you can camp, and they do have a beach area for non-divers ... I am available Fridays, as well as on the weekends. My first dive at Pearl Lake will be this coming Sunday, and hopefully every few weeks I will go. You do need to have a partner before they will let you dive, but if they can the management will try to help you find someone there to partner with ... let me know if there is time you wish to go Fri-Sun and we can work something out! Enjoy your class!

Tracy

Hi Tracy, if you ever make it down to Haigh Quarry let me know. A lot of us meet there around once a week to dive for the day. We like meeting new divers and generally have lots of fun.

I have been to Pearl Lake but have no reason to go back again since it is about 2.5 hours away and Haigh is about 45 mins. Plus I like Haigh better than Pearl Lake.

Good luck finding dive buddies and keep us in mind if you are in the mood for a drive.

welcome aboard

Luckydays,
Thanks for your reply. You know when I started investing in the equipment for diving, I never thought it would be this hard to find a dependable buddy with which to dive!!!! I have gone rogue! Solo diving that is ... Devil's Lake in Wisconsin is the closest place I have seen so far where I don't need a partner even to get on the premises. So far I have had to simply take PADI courses just to get documented dives under my belt. Haigh quarry ... I will have to google this to see how far it is. I am quite willing to drive a few hours for a day of diving!

I think Haigh is around 3 hours from you. That is quite a ride to do quarry diving but if you come this way, let me know and we will get a dive group together to go out for the day.

Pearl Lake is not that far away from you. You should contact the local dive centers to see when they are going to go diving and join them. I would not recommend that you start solo yet no matter where you can do it at. I find that I am to much of a social person to dive by myself and would much rather share it with others.

Anyway, look us up if you are down this way. Here is the link for Haigh Quarry so you can get an idea of what the place is like. Home - Haigh Quarry - The Place for Scuba Diving in Northern Illinois
