Police are continuing the search for a missing diver in Orkney after a Coastguard operation was stood down.

The alarm was raised at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, and HM Coastguard sent search and rescue helicopters to the Scapa Flow area.

Rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy and St Margaret’s also combed the area, alongside lifeboats from Longhope and Thurso.

HM Coastguard stood down operations at around 3am on Thursday, however, Police Scotland said investigations remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, we were made aware of a diver missing in Scapa Flow.

“Officers are involved in an ongoing multi-agency search of the area.”

That's a particularly useless report. No mention at all of what wreck etc.

Yes, all too often the news stories here are lacking in details and we can only hope for additional information to become forthcoming. It sees that he was diving for scallops and a large scale search is still ongoing...
