As the title says. Does anyone know of such a thing?

As reported in the January/February issue of "Canada's Outdoor Sportsman", the article entitled "Attack of the Giant Squid!" on page 10.

The author cites a "recent attack where a scuba diver off the coast of Nanaimo was attacked by several squid and dragged to his death".

I have searched for this incident, and can find no reference to it in published news reports.

Can anyone confirm or deny this alleged event?

Sounds like someone is trying to increase mag sales...

There were some that washed ashore on the west coast of the island this past summer. Long beach/Tofino area if I remember right. Haven't heard of any up the inside though. Definitely did not hear of any diving fatality involving squids.

Snopes.com does not list anything about it, but Googling reveals no sources I'd want to quote. I agree that it is probably legend.

Just like Captain Jack Sparrow said if there was no survivors where did the story come from.

New food for the Orcas, now we can have happy Orcas

All of the giant squid are down here for the winter chasing surfers. :D
