Hi all, i'm a diver in san diego (obviosly from the thread title). I mainly got certified for employment purposes (i work at sea world) and have been trying to get into the water at work for 2 years now. aside from that i love diving the canyon in la jolla and i am just getting back into the water after a year away as my wife got pregnant. now that my daughter is 5 months i am trying to start networking and get back into regular dives.
i am more into exploring then going out with a set plan in mind. i have been known to spend 10-15 minutes just staring at a single fish or go off in whatever direction suits me at the time.
i do need to get out of la jolla canyon and start diving other places but i am hesitant about going it without a guide.
well, that's all i can think of at the moment. hope to make some friends while i'm here.

There are many good dive sites in the San Diego area. Several of them are only accessible by boat, though. La Jolla Shores is a great place for divers of any level. Straightforward navigation. Easy surf entry/exit. Sandy bottom. Showers to rinse off afterward. Most OW classes do their check-out dives there, so it's familiar to many beginners. I can't think of a better location to work your way back into the sport. We did an excellent dive just last night at the Shores (Vallecitos Point). I saw a few nudibranchs that I hadn't seen before: Acanthodoris rhodoceras, Conualevia alba, and an interesting yellow dorid that I'm trying to ID. In total, we saw 8 different species of nudibranchs. A big 4-5 leopard shark startled all of us as we swam back in through the shallows. We also saw the usual sarcastic fringeheads, sea hares, rockfish, crabs, cusk eels, and octos. Be forewarned...water temps are unusual cold for this time of year: 52°F in the canyon and 55°F at 10 fsw.

Join a dive club. The Powers Scuba Meetup.com group sounds like an active, friendly group.

Have fun!
