Search underway for diver missing in Rockland Harbor | PenBay Pilot
ROCKLAND — Multiple state and local agencies have been searching since about 12 pm in the Rockland Harbor Sunday afternoon for a diver who was working underwater on the motor yacht TATS, anchored off Tilson Avenue. The diver has been missing since 10 am this morning and was found at 3:15 pm under the yacht.
Rockland Police, Coast Guard and Maritime Marine Patrol units were all searching for the diver this afternoon, with divers from Marine Patrol in the water off the dock adjacent to U.S. Coast Guard Station Rockland.
The diver, who’s name has not yet been released is a semi local person that was hired to do some unspecified work on the bottom of the yacht. The male diver was not part of the TATS crew. At this time the cause of death is unknown, an autopsy will be peformed to see if anything can be discovered. No foul play was detected.
According to CharterWorld.com, the super yacht TATS was sold to an undisclosed party in May 2012 by Jody O'Brien of Fraser Yachts, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The list price was $17.9 million. The TATS (formerly Loretta Anne IV, also Allogante) is registered in George Town, Cayman Islands, is the British West Indies. The vessel is 131-feet-long and has a cruising speed of 12.5 knots.

The diver was Jim Stormes, a very experienced commercial diver and instructor, and a friend of mine. Cause of death listed as drowning. Does anyone have any more information on what happened? Jim was an avid diver for many decades. He had worked as a commercial diver for years, and was highly experienced. It is just so hard to understand how he could have drowned.

I believe OSHA regulations require 3 divers and a safety line when working underneath the large yacht. Apparently he was working alone with no safety line.

Here are some articles with pictures of the yacht. Very sad.
