Scuba diver found face-down in water at Mt Maunganui - Latest National News - Keep up with Newstalk ZB
A scuba diver is in a critical condition after being found floating face-down in the water at Mt Maunganui.
APNZ reports police and St John ambulance officers were called at 1.20pm after the diver was found in the water at Pilot Bay.
CPR was performed at the scene and the diver was been taken to Tauranga hospital in a critical condition.
Police said the man, his mid-50s, and was discovered by a member of the public.

This accident is obviously different from this one:

This was in my hometown. Apparently they were down for only a short time, they surfaced, the victim (in his 40's) was talking but then slipped under and sank to the bottom at about 2.5ata. I looked for the newspaper article but we'd already thrown it out. When I read it though, it didn't seem to have much in the way of pertinent facts- just the usual.

From memory, there were 4-pax out on a private boat doing a bit of fishing and 'hunter-gathering' diving at Motiti Island just off-shore.
