Freediving requires proper training and procedures just as scuba does.

Budding diving is even more important in freediving but it is different from scuba buddying.

In freediving you do the one up, one down system.
While one buddy dives the other watches from the surface, especially alert for signs of blackout so that they can do an rescue right away.

As usual, a TV story does not give enough information to even make an educated guess as to the actual cause.

This does illustrate that it is always easy to die in the water and that a loss of any diver is a loss to us all.

My thoughts go the surviving family of the diver who was lost.
