Hey guys,

Im currently a Rescue Diver (PADI) and I'm looking to do my Divemaster, IDC & MSDT Combined... can anyone recommend the best place to go to do these courses (im in Australia). Any info that can be passed on would be great, going to do my courses in January so gotta get as much knowledge in as possible and get it booked :)

Regards

Aaron

Hi Aaron

It's important that you do your research to ensure that you choose an IDC facility that has a lot of experience teaching professional-level courses, and contact the Course Director/s to find out more information and whether they can deliver what YOU want to get out of your training.
Your choices will seem endless but a good place to start might be http://www.idc-guide.com/ which has information about some of the leading IDC facilities around the world.

Good luck!

Hi Aaron

Agreed.

As I posted in another thread:

I have recently noticed that a great many internship programs are more than happy to post pictures of their daily activities on social media. So it would seem that a prospective DM/IDC/MSDT candidate might get a pretty good, unfiltered, take on the quality of divers and dive pros that a program turns out by checking out their FaceBook page, Twitter feed, Instagram account, etc.

Take a look at what you see there and ask yourself "Is this the level of dive skill I aspire to?" and "Is this the type of DM/Instructor I'm hoping to become?" and "Would I hire any of the DMs/Instuctors I see in the photos?"

Be sure you are comfortable with your answer to those questions before you decide to move forward.

I understand your desire to complete your DM/IDC/MSDT in one shot. But I'd like to suggest that you take each level a step at a time. It will make you a better, more thoughtful and experienced Instructor. Working as a DM before taking your IDC will not only make the IDC and IE a breeze. It will expose you to potential issues and best solutions to situations you will encounter as an Instructor. In the end, that kind of experience gained is for the students that will be placed under our care as Pros. We owe it to them to give them the very best.

"Hi, I'm a Master Scuba Diver Trainer. I went from Rescue Diver to MSDT in one shot over a couple of months. I have a total of 100 dives in the 2 years I've been diving. But you can trust me with your life."

There's a reason many folks detest the "zero to hero" approach to training. But you certainly made an interesting first post.

Sorry, but I don't agree with this path at all. It takes TIME and EXPERIENCE to become a good DM, let alone a good Instructor.

Please think about the journey, not the destination.
