I just don't log dives
Given as im 100% non padi im hoping someone (preferably instructor) can help here a bit.

Short summary, ive been offered the chance to do divemaster as part of work. Im aware about the long hours, tank lugging etc. What i cant find out anywhere only are the exact requirements and layout of the course itself.

If anyone can give me specifics of what is required and the exact skillsets required and examined on id appreciate it. In other words, what are the standards for this ?

Basically, id like to know what im possibly getting into.

Books/Classroom:
There are a number of written tests (6 or 7 I believe) that you will have to score fairly high on. A couple of these were fairly difficult, and I'm good at written tests. You will have to know PADI diving theory very well.

Watermanship:
Series of timed skills that you get points for.
Swim
Tread water
Snorkle swim
Tired diver tow
Diver Rescue

Demonstration skills:
You will need to demonstrate, at instructor level, all the OW skills taught in class. You will get points for each skill.

There are a number of tasks that you will do.
Area mapping
UW equipment exchange
Buddy Breathing swim
Might be a couple others.

Student work:
You will work with students duing actual classes. You will be graded on each session as to what you did, how you did it, how you interacted with students/instructor.

Thats pretty much it that I remember off hand. You may be able to get more from the PADI website.

PADI website was my first port of call but wasnt exactly useful.

You've supplied part of what i want but what i was after were more specifics (if they exist in print form), ie the standards expected for example the tread water time, the swim time etc.

Im trying to work out if i decide to do it what i level i need to be at (fitness wise mainly) before entering (as well as find out more about the course).

PADI website www.padi.com will have all the information you need..

Can take between 2 weeks and 6months+ depending on the facility - I know a LOT of frustrated Divemaster candidates whose course goes on forever. You can do interning, but there's another option called a practical application which will do roleplaying..(no, not that kind)

My advice would be: GET THE SCHEDULE IN WRITING FROM THE FACILITY - when you will be done. Or at least speak to others who have worked off their course.

hmm - you sure it wasn't in the PADI site?

Ask a PADI center to provide you with the written requirements. The facility that your considering should be able to do this.

Got that stuff in my old dive log, but alas, not with me.

Watermanship for the most part is based on max of 5 points I believe, as are most of the other skills. You have to have 12 pts to pass. Fitness wise, the tired diver tow was the worse for me by far, due to time. Still got 4 points but I thought I was dead :)

From your posts, I would not worry so much about the fitness as I would about the skills demo and written tests, as you said you don't have the Padi background in how they do things.

Skills i can probably adapt to as i dont think its a huge difference in technique one agency for another, written test yes will involve learning how they do things. Thats one reason im after the exact standards for the skills and fitness etc to know what to work on, what to find out and so on. My level of physical fitness to put it mildly has dropped in the last 2 years since i stopped regular sport :).

Hi as some on said lots of stamina stuff 800 yrd snorkel, 15 min tread last 2 mins hands above head and so on not huge stuff but stuff all of this is in the candiate package you get on sign up hard work is a normal part but NOT drudge work.
If some one is offering it for free go for it could be great just go in with a good attitude and open mind and have fun and keep asking questions
