I believe Dive Con (SSI) is not the same as a PADI Divemaster, hence the time requirement would be different. The PADI DMT is designed to enable someone to work as a DM and begin a pro career. In order to become an assistant instructor in the PADI system other requirements are necessary. Depending on student preparation and experience it could be done in 3 weeks. An instructor would have to assess the candidate and a lot depends on the experience an instructor can provide (i.e various classes the DMT can assist in). This also makes the 3 week period unlikely for most. A DM is very limited in teaching capacity as well as an AI in the PADI system. If the OP can do the course in 3 weeks and meet standards he should take the time to really learn the job by staying in it for a while before jumping into an instructor training program IMO. You do get the knowledge/skills but professional development is also the individuals responsibility.

I do agree 3 weeks does not seem practical for all, but for the right candidate it could work. Remember as many have stated in past postings, it not the agency or standards but the way instructors interpret or follow through with things that really matters.
