Dive watch or not?

I wore a Timex iron man on my cert dives last week it pooped out. I would think that getting a slightly better watch might be helpful.

you need some type of timing device for a backup if you are using a computer. it dont have to be expensive, as long as it has a rotateing bezel. this way you can set the dot on the time you went in and as long as you stick to your profile you will know when the 20min or 40 min are up or whatever your bottom time will be. also if you are diving shallow where bottom time is not an issue you will know at least how long you were in. i use a comp, citizen hyper aqualand, and a basic watch just in case the batteries go out on both at the same time. a timing device is a necessary peice of equipment and you should allways have one attached to your gear somewhere

Just be sure the bezel only rotates in one direction in case you bump it on something!

Do you need a watch? A computer is a nice piece of equipment and the Oceanic 250 is cool I use a Versa Pro for rec.

I only seen one puter take a poo-poo it was on the Caymen Salvor in Key West. My buddy was wearing it. We was down over 100 ft and did need to know time down. Lucky mine didn't fail. But we both had watches and bezels set on the time our heads went under. We do solo dive alot, and I wondered if my puter gave up and I didn't have my watch .... see buy the watch.

Make sure if you get a watch make sure its a dive watch! Make sure its rated to at least 330ft better 660. Freestyle Hammerhead is a watch I use alot ( I think I paid $60.00 for it some years ago ) so I don't mess up my Tag Professional.

I have a ladies Timex Iron Man watch. I love it. It is my everyday watch, goes on all dives and it has a lap/timer counter that I use when working out in the pool.

I love it! It is my everyday watch and I like the way it looks. Watches are such a personal thing though.

I am with ClayJar. If my computer fails, my dive is over and I will begin my return and ascend.

Wife and I dive with 2 computers each but I still carry my watch to time safety stops. I set my bezel when i arrive at my safety stop so I don't have to add x minutes to bottom time and leave my stop after that time. Other than that, it tells me how long it is to lunch/supper/sunset/etc.

I am new to diving, actually in the middle of my certs. I am buying all of my gear, and came across something that I thought some of you could help me with. I am buying the oceanic v250 for my dive computer, but I wonder if I need a back up, or just a watch, or nothing at all. We have just done a pool dive so far but doing open water this saturday, and the thought just came across me that I have nothing if I was on my own, like after certification to check my time with. Then I realized that I am going to have a computer, but do I still need a watch, and if so what kind? Thanks for all the help guys, and gals.

paid $150 for my citizen on ebay; it has depth and time and is dive watch rated for depth. don't need to pay $500 +. I dive rec mostly, so if my computer fails, I will take my deepest point indicated by the citizen and et, and assume it was square, which is conservative.
