Hey Gang,

I've got a quick question that I hope some local folks can help with. I've been to Japan several times but I don't know the laws regarding dive tools being shipped to Japan. I know the pocket knife length law is slightly over two inches but is a fixed blade dive tool or cutting hook limited to the same size? My buddy wants a tool shipped but obviously I don't want to send him something that will get him in trouble. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Ed

If it is being shipped to a non-US military address he might have problems with a dive tool over 3.5 inches. If it is going to an FPO/ APO address label it a dive tool and it will get through just fine. Depending on the custom inspector and how close they are checking that day a dive tool of 3.5 inches will not be cleared without a special permit to a local Japanese address.
