Trying to find some socks for full foot fins. I have gone through several pairs/brands and run into the same issue.
After a day or two of walking around on the boat with them on they get holes worn through them.
Not interested in booties for this type of diving/fins.
Boat deck is slightly rough non-slip surface.

All the 1,2,3m socks I have tried have failed, closest I have come is with a pair of lavacore socks but the stitching on the sides is coming apart after about 3 trips.

Don't need a lot of warmth, would be ok putting a pair over some thin neoprene socks, have tried several different brands/styles all with the same result.

Figure someone out there has found a tough sock that will hold up.

Rock Socks with Kevlar Soles | MAKO Spearguns

Sounds Like We Have the Perfect Solution!

Rock Socks by MAKO Spearguns have soles made of Kevlar. That’s right! KEVLAR SOLES! I guarantee no other freedive socks are more durable than the MAKO Spearguns Rock Socks.

And guess what…They are made from 100% Genuine Yamamoto Neoprene. So, you get the most durable socks in the world and the most comfortable and the warmest socks ever made.

This is another example of MAKO quality at an amazing price.

What other freedive socks have Kevlar soles and made with 100% genuine Yamamoto neoprene?

NONE!

Why?

Because a sock with these features, sold at a dive shop would cost around $70.00 per pair. But, because MAKO sells direct to divers (no dive shop markup), we can offer the highest quality products for a lot less than dive shop prices.

These are the most durable freedive socks ever made!

Available in 3mm thickness

Features Include

  • The best neoprene in the world (Yamamoto neoprene)
  • 3 dimensional cut (left and right) for the best fit and amazing comfort
  • Non-skid KEVLAR sole for increased traction on boats and durability
  • Toes have abrasion resistant material to prevent toe nail cuts
  • All seams are glued, stitched AND welded to make a water tight seal and prevent unraveling of stitching from the high wear areas that contact the fin pocket.

NOTE: These Kevlar Soled socks do add a ½ size to your foot size.

  • If your foot pockets are a bit loose when you wear non Kevlar sole socks, then your foot pockets will fit perfectly with the Kevlar sole socks.
  • If your foot pockets fit perfectly when you wear non Kevlar Sole socks, then your foot pockets will be too tight with the Kevlar sole socks.

Buy anything that has ruberized mesh reinforced soles, kevlar does not work well for that as it does not strech so the sock falls apart or the kevlar delaminates. Make sure to pass all the seams with some sort of neoprene glue, that makes them last a lot longer, i'm using seatec 3mm for around 3 months a pair, and i walk reguraly 150 meters from my house to the sea on concreat. My best lasting were tribord 5mm socks i lost one after around 6 months of use but they were very bouyant, more then other 5mm socks.

I buy these - if you can find something without "dive" in the title it tends to cost less ;)

MEC Neoprene Socks II - Unisex

They go on and off every dive but they're inside boots so I haven't exposed them much to the type of abrasive surface you wrote about. That said, I don't think I have ever had a pair wear out - they just got compressed so I retired them because I wear them for warmth.

Technically they're kayaking socks; if if you can't shop at MEC there may be a comparable product at another outdoors store.

Thanks for the input, Cephalopod2 I think those just have neoprene on the bottom so would likely get eaten up pretty quick walking on them.

I would encourage anyone who is looking for a much more durable "sock" to consider our kevlar sole product. We have been carrying this sock for quite some time and we have had very little (or no) negative feedback from customers.

The comments about coating the seams with wetsuit glue might be useful for a "normal" pair of socks, but if you read the description and look carefully at the photograph, you will see and understand that all exterior seams are already protected with a latex sealer which is much more flexible and practical than wetsuit glue. The seams are protected from abrasion and wear and this also eliminated the threads pulling out and "running".

I did not use your brand, but I did use quite a few other, they all had the same problem with kevlar either riping off the neoprene or delaminating, of course your might be different.
As far as your seams being factory coated with latex i take that as a big plus.

I've had incredibly good luck with Riffe socks. I'm on pair#3 currently, the first 2 pairs surviving as an everyday dive guide on Maui for 3 years with occasional lava rock hopping during freediving sessions from the beach. The first pair didn't have the bottom material they have now, so I coated the entire bottom including the seams with aquaseal. When it was 3/4 dry I pressed them into some sand to get some good grip on them. Worked like a champ. The sand eventually came off, but the texture was still there and I had no slipping problems.

Can you please make a cooler or thinner one for warm water but also still have kevlar soles?

Thanks for the suggestion. In general, even in warm water, wearing a 3 mm "warm" sock is not going to cause anyone to overheat or be uncomfortable. Perhaps the 3 mm socks will work for you - even in Key West in the summer.
