We have a trip going to crystal river in march and I want to know if there are other good sites near by. I love diving with the manatees but would like to get in a few other dives, are there any other good sites near by?

Your best bet is to purchase and look in Ned Deloaches Guide to Underwater Florida. I think the good sites are mostly going to be a bit northeast of there. Paradise Spring, Blue Grotto, Devils Den. Farther up you have Troy Spring, Ginnie Spring. A bit south of CR is Weeki Wachee spring, and on that river is Hospital Hole.

I just wrote a trip report from my vacation in the area. We used American Pro dive shop for a couple of our dives and they were great. One I really liked was the drift dive down Rainbow River.

We did the same a few years ago and had a blast. King's Bay Cavern dive after the manatee snorkel and then a drift of Rainbow River. Wonderful day! Besides Ginnie Springs, Rainbow River was our favorite. I also suggest buying the above mentioned book. Very comprehensive guide to all of Florida's diving.

Rainbow River is a treat, Blue Grotto is boring after 5 minutes unless you do the cave run. Devils Den is a little more interesting. Ginnie Springs is a cave divers delight but you can run the river, too.

Is that the cavern right there under where the snorkeling is done and by the plaque? If so, that was cool. I bought the video from that dive. My 6 year old nephew has watched it a dozen times now and points me out to everyone every time I appear. It's cool being the favorite uncle.
Rainbow was also my favorite.
