Does anyone have recommendations for good dive shops in Jacksonville Fl? Specifically ones that cater more to the tech crowd? I’m moving there in a few weeks and need to find a new local shop.

This is more of a charter recommendation that specializes in true 'Tech' diving. They dive alot deeper and with longer run times than most other boats in that area. That said,,,,,,you can't just jump on a trip and drop in 200. You need to become part of the team so they know how you dive. It's going to take a face to face meeting when you get to Jacksonville in order to get on some of their tech diving trips. Ask to meetup with Josh.

Welcome to North Florida! You may not find general dive shop in Jacksonville, especially one that caters to technical divers. There are folks who sell gear and fill tanks from their garages, etc. But if you head west about 90 miles, you'll find several in cave country. I frequent Extreme Expose in High Springs, and also can recommend Cave Country Dive Shop in the same town.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely have to check them out. I definitely wouldn’t want to do a serious dive off a boat I’d never been on before without vetting them and them vetting me first and I’m glad to hear they feel the same way.

Ok thanks that’s disappointing to hear but was kind of the vibe I got trying to research shops. Definitely familiar with the cave country shops (being closer to that area is the main reason for the move), but I was hoping to find something more local for like mid week fills or any last minute needs that I don’t want to drive all the way there for.

High Springs is a great place for tech divers but I'd also like to recommend Sea Hunt in St Augistine. It's a tad bit closer, I earned my Cavern cert through them (Steve). It's a great shop, they don't take advantage of their customers and they are EXCELLENT instructors. When I began cavern, Steve looked at my setup and made changes to my gear. He took the time to explain why certain things needed to be changed as Cavern is the start of tech diving.

A bit further out from Jax is the High Springs area, where there are lots of caverns and caves! I have experience with two shops, as was mentioned earlier Extreme Exposures is a good shop as well as Fantom Dive Systems.

Good luck and have fun!
