I just got my new HID!!!!:D AWESOME!!!! Now if my dry suit would only get here so I can try all my new toys. I got the Dive Rite Wreck canister with the 10w HID 13 degree bulb. That's the bulb it came with. Once I get some extra cash I'm gonna get the 6 degree bulb and keep the 13 for a backup.

Now I see that it has a loop so it can be mounted on 2 inch webbing. Anyone have the canister mounted on their BP? That's where I think I'd like mine. How would I attach it there? Is it better on the webbbing? Also the LDS where I bought it told me to mount the canister upside down so I can reach the toggle switch easier. I think I read a post saying that upside down is not a good way to mount it. If it's not mounted like that then how do you reach the on/off switch?

Please I need help QUICK so I can get my light set up and run around the house with my BP on.=-) :out:

You're a sick puppy :D , but I'll still talk to ya.

Do not mount the canister upside down. You should be able to reach the switch okay. I put my switch on the outside, with the can sitting as low as it will go. Works fine and I have the same light.
Beware that DR says to NOT light the light out of the water as it gets too hot. Also, you will probably not like the 13 deg. bulb, the 6 works much better.

Hey MD
did you mount your canister on your webbing or right to your BP. Which do you think is a better configuration?
Thanx
Joey

IF you went to your bp you'd have to mount it switch down to have any chance of reaching the switch. I've played with an argon bottle mounted like that and didn't really like it. I have mine mounted on my tank, whether single or doubles.

Another thing about mounting on the bp, I would think the lighthead would get thrown around/bumped more unless you had some snaps or something where you could quickly unhook the can from the bp.

You could do it Joey, I just see no overriding reason to.

If the can slides back toward your bp too far, put a triglide or a plastic buckle there as a standoff. I actually have a d-ring there, but don't tell anybody

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH I'mm telling on you!!!!!!! :out:

I take it that you leave the canister on your webbing? And then just take the lid and lighthead and battery and store it til you dive? That'ds why I was thinking about attaching right to the BP. Quick on for the dive quick off to pack it away to not get damaged.

If you look at the OMS web site you can see how they mount their lights on a backplate. I would think you could get the hardware from Trident maybe? I have a Sartek light that is set up to be backplate mounted from the factory. I know they have the correct hardware, though I don't know if it's for sale as an "accessory". I am still experimenting with the canister positioning....... may try it on the belt this weekend.

Hi Matt

How do you get to the toggle switch with the canister mounted on your BP? Do you have it mounted upside down? Does it move around alot and bang around like MD said it may?

The cannister IS upside down. The switch is easy to reach. I think it would be impossible to reach right side-up. It does swing around a little, but when you're in the water you don't even notice it's there. It comes off quickly with those little screw type chain links.(I don't know the proper name for them). It's easy to position the cannister where you want it by moving the cannister up and down in the hose clamps and/or the holes in the backplate.

I think I like the BP mount best. If you put the can on your belt what do you do to store the light and can? Take the whole thing off after every dive? At least on your BP you just pop the clips off and boom you're done. Unless if belt mounted you just leave the empty can and store everythign else after diving? Thats sounds like the only reasonable thing to do. Belt mounting sounds like its a much more stable way to mount it.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO CONFUSED......... ;-0
