Greetings:

Dive Rite trek or rec wings - which is the better wing to purchase for my dive application?

My application. Mostly temperate diving with single tank (steel 100) with drysuit, and tropical diving with 5mm wetsuit. Always with a 20 cu pony.

I am thinking of going to doubles, but only now and again as the situation demands.

Which is the more suitable wing - TREK or REC???

Many thanks.....................Iain

I was in similar dilema and I bought Rec. However, I ended up with diving it only with doubles (it's pretty OK for that) and I use it for single tank only when I forgot single tank wing.

As many others have recommended: single tank wing for singles, double for doubles.

Thanks for your view. I gather then you use the Rec for doubles mainly, but think that the trek is much better for single tanks? As stated, most of my diving is with singles......Iain

No, I don't think that Trek is better for single tanks. It wraps around tank (as Rec does with single tank). I don't know what the purpose of Trek is - IMO it's not good neither for singles nor for doubles. I would use Venture wing for single tank.

Thanks monk seal - I'll take a look at the venture wings.....Iain

Hello again Monk Seal. I checked the statistics on the venture wing and it only has 30 pound lift.... This is no doubt OK for the tropics diving a single AL 80 with a 5mm suit, BUT for temperate water wearing a drysuit, 100 steel, pony and 25 pound of weight I do not think it would have enough lift??

As I am only diving singles at the moment I'm happy to buy only for a single tank, however, I am becoming confused as to the best wing to buy.

Trek, rec or venture.....It seems that there is not a wing suitable for tropical and temperate diving.

What's your call on this? I certainly do not want taco effect and difficulty vented air on ascent. Thanks........Iain

You'll have to check OxyCheq

or Halcyon

IMO they had better single tank wings.

Do you know if they are compatible with the dive rite transpac harness? Iain

I´ve owned several dive rite wings, they are all very good products, you can pick up both with good results but i recomend you as was done for several people above than a shorter wing (compared to trek or rec) is a better choice..mostly due that for singles a circular shape has advantages compared to U shaped ones....air are free to move inside in all positions and that produces an improved bouyancy...

for singles goes to venture..(or similars ones like halcyons, oxycheqs, etc)..at leisure pro you can get one quite cheap (230 ???..i´m not sure)

for doubles all brands are good enough...

two cells are the best choice...one cells can handle both situations (single and doubles) but are not the best in these..
