Question Dive Rite wing pull dump

I recently bought a Dive rite wing and noticed that the pull dump had what appeared to be large amount of play in order to release the gas. I had to pull the hose 4 inches to release. Contacted Dive Rite and they said that it was because of the length of the inflator hose. The longer the hose the farther you have to pull it to activate it. The shorter the hose the opposite applies.

Can anyone explain why that is because for the life of me I cannot figure it out. They said it was due to a mechanical design limitation.

Toss it, and replace it with a regular hose. If you're flat in the water you'll be using the rear dump anyways.

@youllfloattoo how long is your current inflator hose? the only reason to have that much play in the pull dump is if you somehow have an 18 inch inflator hose but the pull dump cable is still the standard 22 inches. in which case, you can try shortening the pull dump cable instead or make a custom length one from stainless steel wire and some wire crimps.

The hose is 22 inches. So the cable 25 inches. Dive rite said this was an industry standard. Why can't the cable be 22.5 inches long. What is the limitation with the hose?

Becuase you don’t want it accidentally dumping every time you touch the inflator.

You want it to need a good long firm pull to prevent inadvertent actuation.

Getting in the habit of dumping from the inflator or the kidney OPV is probably better as those techniques apply across most wings. Shoulder pull dumps are a minority configuration.

Pulling on my inflation assembly at depth to manage buoyancy sounds really sub-optimal. I like being in trim and that pools my air away from my shoulders. My left kidney OPV gives me more precise control without having to disturb my trim. I’m a proponent of plain elbows.

Well it was $60 bucks for what I already bought plus what you detailed. So $87, which is a lot to me.
