I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the TransPac from Dive Rite?

I am looking for a travel BC from warm water diving. We go the Caribbean at least once a year and I am looking for a light weight travel BC. I saw one at a Dive Show recently in Chicago and was impressed with quality of the materials over the Zuma and Lite Hawk. One concern I have is 27lbs of lift enough? I dive either a 3mil shorty or full wet suit depending where we go. We rent single tanks so they vary by dive operator.

I have two of the old style and I've been very impressed with the fit and stability. I've used them for singles, back mount doubles, and side mount.

I love my transpac. I searched forever and tried several different back inflate BC's before i purchased it. I have a shorter torso (I'm 5'4") and I love how adjustable and versitile the transpac is. I have had no problems adjusting it to fit wearing a rash guard and board shorts or a 7mm john and jacket. The transpac can also grow with you as a diver,I plan on using mine for doubles in the future. I just completed my AOW and I never had a problem finding a place for a light, compass, slate, reel, lift bag, etc. to clip to my BC.

I would suggest getting the crotch strap and weight pockets. My husband dove his transpac for a few years before getting his and he absolutely loves them.

Don't forget the Zuma and BC's that are designed for travel are going to be as light as they can make them to accomodate airline weight restrictions. The 27 lbs. of lift is plenty for a 3 mm suit and single tank.

I own and use the DiveRite Transpack. I use it mainly for sidemount, but I can slip in the tank cam straps and viola I have a bc that I can use for a single tank. The only comparission difference is the transpack wasn't designed for be as light as possible to consider airline weight issues.
Hope that helps.

I put 100's of dives on my old TransPac before I switched to an Apeks WTX harness. The TransPac worked really well for me and BTW, 27lbs of lift is more than enough lift for Caribbean diving. Have fun and lets us know how the trip went!

If I were looking for something like that for warm water travel I would take a good look at DR's "Travel Pac" instead of the TransPac...

DiveRite Travel Pac at www.DiveSeekers.com

It's a great piece, and is less expensive than the TransPac.

Their Voyager Pac is also a good option if you need a bit more lift.

My wife has a newer model transpac with their 30# (maybe 27) wing and likes it for all her diving. I was trying to talk her into a BP and the transpac ended up being the fairly expensive compromise. (Only problem is she now has her eye on a freedom plate so it is just a matter of time.) The transpac is bulkier and heavier than what I prefer for a warm water travel rig. I dive the Oxycheq UL plate (basically a soft pack) with 18# travel wing for Caribbean trips and it is great. Wife's rig is noticeably heavier and bulkier but still no problem packing for travel with current weight limits.

If heading to the little latitudes, I throw a Dive Rite Travel wing on my Trans Pack and I'm good to go. Compact and light weight.

I have a TransPac, with the Travel Wing, and while it's very modular, and adaptable to a number of situations, as shown above, I actually like my Zeagle back-inflate BC better. I've found the Zeagle trims better... that's it. I'm sure it's a personal perspective, because the TransPac is certainly an excellent (and obviously well made) harness.

So, if you want my TransPac (very limited mileage), drop me a line. I've added a couple of bent D rings, and quick release weight pockets. It's in mint condition (L/XL).

Check out the Dive Rite Travelpac. It's a much simplified Transpac. And yes, 27-lbs of lift is PLENTY for warm water rec diving. If that's not enough then somebody is doing something wrong.

If you were diving in a multitude of places and types of water, then the Transpac with the changeable wing would be the choice.
