Dive Rite TRanspac II

I dive the Transpac with Trek wing for singles and light doubles and love it. Anything beyond doubles or my steel doubles I go to a backplate.

I just got back from my 1st dive trip with the TPII w/ travel wings. I liked it quite a bit. IMO, this setup is great for traveling as it is very lightweight and packs small. Thats not to exclude the bp/w if you plan to travel as you can get an aluminum one thats pretty lightweight.

Eventhough I was happy with the TPII and only have had one trip on it, I just bought a FredT SS backplate and I am trying that out with the Travelwing. Its more of an experiment than anything, I just want to see which setup I like better. Haven't had a chance to get it wet yet... hopefully will get to in the next few weeks.

As for the Transpac, I have one with the travel wing and have about 150 dives on it in the last 12 months or so. I really love it. It does position the tank on the high side, but so do some BP setups.

Its just so amazing how every time someone asks a question about BC x, y or z they get at least one post to try a BP. Learn to love internet forums, the land where relevance takes on all kinds of strange forms. How about a horse collar and a plastic backpack? Na, skip the horse collar and just weight for the bottom. OK, carry an empty milk jug and fill it with air from your backup regulator. How about a jacket BC, everyone has one so they must be great. And so it goes....

I think a little more information on your physical attributes will also help to confirm about the suitability of the sizes of the wings.

I am 5'11 and weigh about 170 pounds. Last week, I was diving a TPII with a stainless steel BP integrated and TREK Wings. I had a great trim, comfortable in the water and a little more than enough lift on the surface. I was doing boat dives, drifting, wreck dives, everything...... with a 3mm wetsuit. Great on every dive.

I weigh in at about 250lbs and am about 6' to 6' 1". Iwas Wondering what type of Wing to get. I wear about 36-38lbs in salt water, with a 7mm wetsuit. Would a rec wing be able to provide adequate lift, or should i get a bigger wing altogether. The transpac I was using during my course was quite old, have no idea what wing was on it. Also, sorry don't mean to make this along post or anything, a few of you guys suggested a bp would be a better solution. Now is it possible to get a bp with the same type of harness setup as the Transpac, I really like the way it adjusts/fits me.

One Option is what I used in my previous post. A TPII with SS BP integrated and using a TREK Wing.

Another option is the Dive Rite Transplate. It is basically a BP with the TP harness. You get the BP as well as the comfort of the TP harness.

Thanks for the link to the diverite bp. That would probaly quite a bit cheaper then the TPII. Any probaly be more stable on the back wouldn't it. Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate the help.

Yeah I'll make sure to post my opinion after I try it out. Might not be for awhile though. Am quite busy with school and everything, so might be a few weeks before I actually get to try it out.
