this morning, and it did have the new pockets. They still have the zippers around the top, so you can store lots of other stuff in there too, and not worry about loosing your weights. They now require you to pull up to release 1 velcroe fastener, and then down to release the other, that will let the untethered contents drop out....they still have the little D rings inside. The only thing I can see that would would make them hard to get to (useless) for storage, is if you have them pushed all the way back, so they are out of the way when using stages. You'd need the thigh pockets in that case...You can still operate the ditch function with them all the way back though..just not the zippers.

The new pockets also have 2 zippers starting at the ends, zipping towards each other, so you can open only what you need to. Nice touch IMHO

All in all, I think I like them better,

Hey Darlene,

Any input you (or anyone else) have on best location for the integrated weights on a TPII would be great. I've got about 15 dives on one and I'm still struggling w forward, side, or as far back as possible (without use of stages).

I'm also trying to figure the best location for the D-rings and uses for them (in addition to a place to hang my SPG) on the waist band.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Joe

jhspb once bubbled...

My weight pockets are just as Darlene mention, but I rec'd mine several months ago...I wonder if there really is a "new" design...or if ours are older...

As for positioning, I like where dive Rite seems to want them, at the base of the shoulder straps, on the waist belt.

the diagram that came with my pockets integrates the shoulder strap and waist belt together, and they hold the pocket firmly.

Cheers,

Sean

Joe,
I don't use stages either and I place the weight pockets as far back as I can. The closer I can get those weights to the center of my bouyancy the better the trim. I put the D ring "in front" of the weight pocket because 1) it serves me no purpose to have them in the back and 2) they fix the weight pockets and prevent them from working their way forward.
Meanwhile I checked with my LDS on the price of a set of these weight pockets. Here in Canada they want the outrageous sum of Can.$189 + tax ( ~U.S $120 ) for a set of two. Dive Rite Express charges only U.S. $79. This kind of markup is absurd even for me who would like to support my LDS. I can get them from LeisurePro for US $49.This is really a no-brainer!:-)

I think you can fix the pockets to the point where the shoulder harness meets/integrates w the waist belt, and I think that inegration point can be set pretty far back. I'll have to check it out. This set up is outlined in the user manual if I remember correctly. But moving the D-ring forward of the pocket is still a good idea. I may pull out my BC and try it out tonight.

i though you meant the new new weight pockets.
i didn't know they changed them last year.
they might have changed them again???

the ones i demo'd last week were presented as
'these are the new weight pockets. you can tell they have no zippers'
i'm pretty sure the weight didn't drop out of the bottom when ditched.
i could be wrong, i was really focusing on the transplate and wing.

they also attatch to the waste strap and shoulder strap, so that the little stainless plate is directly behind the rear loop. You can adjust the positioning from a little to the front of the hip, to all the way back against the wing/plate...the shoulder strap base moves where you slide the pocket to. They are handiest at the side or slightly ahead, you can easily get to the zippers that way. I need them all the way back to make donning and doffing stages easy and unencumbered, but I have thigh pockets on my wetsuit for storing stuff.

I'll get the transplate wet this week and report on how it works.

I reccomend moving the pockets as far back as possible this also allows the shoulder straps to be more secure. Place the d-rings in front of the pocket and this works great. For extra storage I use the thigh pockets on my dry suit or the Dive Rite thigh pocket on my wetsuits.
