Hi

I recently bought a set of 32#qlr weight pockets by dive rite.

Is putting too much weight in the forward weight pockets overkill/dangerous?

Yes I admit, I am still quite new to diving....

Please give me some advice?

Well it depends, cus if you're a large person with thick exposure protection, you might need as much as 25lbs however, placing all that weight in one location might make balancing a bit more difficult.

I'm not familiar with the dr qlr but if a weight pocket is necessarily big, I'll just stuff something into it to reduce the size like socks or whatevers handy.

Instead of just buying stuff that you end up wondering if you'll need, go do a series of weight checks in different suits, water n tanks. That way you'll know how much weight you actually need n can get the proper gear.

I don't know, it depends upon what sort of diving you are doing. If you are running an 18 pound wing in warm water then it is overkill. I have a set of the DR QR 8 pounders and and I feel they are a bit overkill for my usual 4 to 8 pounds (sometimes nothing as in 0) requirement warm water gear.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. I dive warm and cold but I'm only planning to use it with the drysuit. (just a weight belt in warm water will do I think.)

This is a good question. I'm also thinking about a DiveRite BC as my first and have the same question. I need 32-34 lbs in cold water and a dry suit. I am thinking maybe I will put some of it on the cam straps so it's not all in the weight pockets.
