Well, just got back from a weekend in San Juan for work. I couldn't pass up the chance to dive and I lined up a shore dive at Escambron.
So we plopped in the water and started the swim out. Visibility during the first part of the dive was awful, maybe 4 ft max. We kicked out towards the break wall, then timed our move over the wall with the surge. Once I got over the vis improved to 10-15 ft and we were able to see some cool stuff- lots of smaller reef fish, an octopus, shrimp, an eel, all kinds of stuff.
Currents were pretty stiff, and the dive was shallow (max 28 fsw). So it was a good exercise for trim and bouyancy with the new gear. I got some pretty bad cramps in my calves on the way back from kicking into the current (could be the new fins).
So the moral of the story is that is wasn't the best dive in the world, but I can't think of anything I would have rather been doing for 60 minutes
