Hmmmmmm....to start off, Laurel was a No Show. No
phone call, no nada. I hope everything is ok.
Fortunately Donna Shelley and her fiance Jim showed up
to dive with me. We hung around until almost 5:30
waiting for Laurel to show up. Since Laurel was a No
Show, we descended down the stairs to North Cresent
Bay/ Seal Rock. Waves were intermitant at 1-2' then
flattened out.
We made our way into the water. Water temp at surface
was a nice 59 degrees. Kicked out aways towards the
outer reefs. Dropped down and headed west towards
Seal Rock. Jim and I both had our UW cameras with us.
He had his Olympus and I had my Canon Elph 230. This
was the first time I had taken my camera on a night
dive. Not really knowing what to expect, I was very
happy with my results of my pictures. I do not use a
strobe on my camera. I basically just removed the
flash diffuser from the housing and shot away! The
colors of our marine creatures just 'popped' out at
me!
We saw all kinds of marine life tonight including
bugs, bat stars, ochre stars of all colors, sea
cucumbers, sea hares, black smiths, girabaldi's, a
good sized octopus, lots of bat rays, sting rays, a
large spider crab, smaller hermit crabs, two crabs
having 'sex on the beach' (isn't that a drink? -their
beach, UW), other species of crabs, baby halibuts, C-O
soles, and Donna thinks she saw a ghost fish? (ID)
Viz initially was about 30' but diminished throughout
the duration of the dive due to SURGE. Surge was
about 5' in some areas. I don't mind surge at times
for it's kind of fun to be able to 'fly' through the
water. LOL But when you're trying to take a pic,
then it's a different story!
Depth: 29' for 105" minutes
Surf was up just a tad on the way out but still
manageable.
I can't wait to go again!!! Anyone for Monday or
Tueday night??? Let me know!
Live to dive, Dive to Live!
