I'm a Fish!
The weather man forecasted strong winds with heavy rain and snow for New Years Day, lucky for us when we arrived at Front St in Marblehead we were met by clear skies and flat calm seas. We had a total of 14 divers (two of which went wet) and with the exception of finding enough parking spaces, the day went great. 8 people for shore support were a huge help too.
The average dive times were about an hour, the air temp was 30, the bottom temp was 34 @ 40ft, with a max viz of 15 ft. Old bottles, a few scallops, and other assorted junk was collected.
Then we all retired to a house party in Rockport to prolong the Holiday Festivities! :drunks:

We have a number of winter dives in the works, feel free to send a PM if you'd like to join us.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone on SCUBABOARD

Great for memories.

Any nice marine life sightings?

Glad all made it to and from the party safely. Just wish I lived closer so I could join you guys.

Very interested in learning more about diving Marblehead / Ft. Sewell. Is parking close to the steps/entry point? What's the bottom like? Is it a typical harbor bottom dive? Sand, junk/artifacts
Is this a dive you have to mindful of tides? (have to dive at slack or OK to dive regardless of tides.

Which direction from steps is interesting??

There is on street parking that is just steps from the water. The Barnacle Restaraunt was once a rooming house/restaraunt that crashed into the ocean during a storm in the early 1900's. If you dive off to the right you can find bit's or even whole plates, most were manufactured by J&G Meakin co. They have a website so you can actually date how old your plate is by comparing the makers marks. Marblehead harbor was also used as a trash dump during colonial times, and by the by the modern yacht clubs as well. Lots of junk to find.
This site is really only safe to dive during the winter. The boat traffic during the summer is very busy, kind of like Rt 128 during rush hour.

Great to see that there are some "untouchable divers" :D
