Just got back from a week on Grand Cayman. We booked our air and hotel through Travelocity and got a pretty good deal at the Marriott with an oceanside room. Loved the hotel and the view of the ocean and beautiful Cayman sunsets. :14:
The diving was outstanding, as always. The winds were from the WNW the first couple of days, so we dove the south sound two days and then were able to move around to the west side. The north side never opened up. Next time.
We went with Wall to Wall, Wall to Wall Diving - Personally Guided Diving at its Best in Grand Cayman, and could not have been happier. Giles, Dusty and Gary took great care of us. We never had to lift a tank or set up a single piece of gear. The boats are limited to 8 divers, so you end up with personalized service. All dives are computer and if you don't have your own, they have free computers to use. They carry your gear to the stern, where you sit while putting on your fins. They then help you into your gear and help you stand on the swim step if needed for your entry. Most divers either head straight to the bottom or follow the mooring line down. Giles, Dusty or Gary then lead you on a tour and point out the local points of interest. After the tour, you end up under the boat and have a while to explore on your own. Of course, you can head off on your own for the entire dive if you wish. Your dive times aren't limited by anything other than your computer and your air supply.
A few divers had problems, one lost a fin on entry and another needed extra time to equalize on his descents each day, but the staff went out of their way to assist and make all divers comfortable, regardless of experience.
Because of the small size of the group and the friendly nature of the Wall to Wall staff, you quickly feel as though you are diving with old friends. I've dove with many outfits throughout the world, and Wall to Wall was the absolute best experience I've ever had. Giles even scheduled a night dive for just the two of us. I was happy that he managed to round up a few more divers the next day.
Wall to Wall also has some of the best prices I've seen for multi-day diving.
If you go, make sure and ask Gary about his dance moves and if you have the opportunity, stop by Foster's grocery and pick up a package the chocolate chip mini-muffins for the crew. You'll have friends for life.
