It was a nice day for diving with the outside temps in the upper 60s but there were some gusty winds that made it feel just a little cooler. I went to Millbrook for some diving and BBQ with The Dive Shops Special Fun Dive. I met Mike from Scubaboard.com and he didnt look anything like his avatar from Scubaboard. . I wore my 7mm farmer john, 3mm gloves, 5mm boots, and 6.5mm hood. I didnt get a good reading from my dive computer on the surface temp since it was still reading 67 degrees and it definitely wasnt 67 degrees. It felt a lot warmer than the last two times I was there. We surface swam to the platform with the rope to the plane and descended to the platform. It took a little while to get my buoyancy right with my suit and added weight but I finally got it going. As we made our way down to the plane we definitely hit a nice thermocline that dropped the temps to 44 degrees at 62 feet at the plane. After the plane we headed to the bus to investigate the bus collapse. When we got to the bus, it was clear that the bus was no longer upright and was now laying on its side but it was still intact. A couple of divers ahead of us did a penetration of the bus but kicked up the silt that it was a blackout situation and we decided not to go through. We went through the van instead and I went through the steel pipe in the area. After diving around the bus area we headed back to platform and did our safety stop. This was my 50th dive, a small diving milestone. Dive stats for dive #1: 62ft, 44 degrees and 31 minutes.
After a 2 hour SI, where we ate BBQ and warmed up a bit, I changed into my dry 7mm fullsuit, 5mm gloves, 5mm boots, and 6.5 mm hood (wet). This time Mike and I had another diver Chris from The Dive Shop. We started our dive to the space station then went back the opposite way staying at about 15-25 ft. When we were getting out by the steps, we saw a large stripped bass. It was the only sign of life in the quarry I saw that day. This was my 51st dive and now I can change my logged dive stats on Scubaboard to 51-100 dives. Dive stats for dive #2: 36ft, 48 degrees, 51 minutes.
