ScubaStew and I dragged a newbie up to Cape Ann for two tanks at Folly Cove today. Viz was worse than I've ever seen it there, but not horrible. Lots of other divers there, but not crowded. Saw the biggest lobzilla I've ever seen u/w--claws alone were the size of two human hands put together. Caught one over the 5" limit egger and back into her home she went. We had two nice long dives(59min/66min) w/ an uneventful visit from an EPO after #2. Checked our permits, flag, tank numbers and the one keeper ScubaStew grabbed and went on to another group of divers w/o incident. He did mention that a diver over at Back Beach got hot under the collar when he grabbed the guy lobstering w/o a flag or tank numbers. He said he didn't give the diver a ticket, he just brought it to his attention. He must have been making the Cape Ann rounds.

I have to agree the EPO was cool.

Just doing his job. He could have easily wroten most folks up, if he needed/wanted to make his quotas. Especially since of the 6 to 7 dive flags in the water only one had numbers on it (that I noticed). That "one" (with the numeric digits) was not us, since we finally had to get a new flag, the former had seen better days (like back in 1996).

good day all around though..

We did one dive at Plum and one at Folly yesterday (8/27) and I agree, worst viz I've seen at Folly (10' max). Talking to one of the locals, he said he saw about 50 stippers there the day before, but I just saw one on Sunday. Still, a pleasant dive, though quite crowded. The dive at Plum, however, was super: no crowd, better viz, tons of lobsters, and I discovered the site actually gets to depths greater than 30ft!
