Wow what a gorgeous night for a dive. I met up with Glen (GlenFWB) and his two friends Kevin and Matt (?) (help me out with the names Glen, Sorry, if I messed the names up) at 6:00PM in the lot near the beach access. My computer said the air temp was 57* and trust me when I say it was every bit of that and less!!!! I think we all agreed that it was a bit chilly in the parking lot as we changed into our wetsuits. We got all geared up and made the Trek to the water. It seems to me that the city of Destin is adding softer sand to the walkway and possibly moving the water further away as this walk keeps getting longer every time I make it! Maybe the City of Destin can talk with the Boardwalk Builders from Morrison Springs, who seem to know how to build long, long walkways to the waters edge!
Well after hours of walking we finally splashed in and went under at 7:47PM. We made the slow descent to the box and tied up our dive flag and Glens dead camera and continued on our way. We were in the "Shell Zone in no time and I think we were all suprised at the large number of very Large, dead Sanddollars, Glen had me take a picture (Below) of one of his hauls and it ws less than 5 minutes until my Large Shell bag was over flowing with Sand dollars. I actually left it behind for the rest of the dive to pick up on our return as the bag weighed over 10 pounds. We saw quite a few Samller reef fish hiding amongst the rocks as well as a few crabs, and I saw my first BarbFish, my first Clingfish, and my first LizardFish. Glen had commented that it was weird that he'd never seen an Octopus here before (Me neither) but behold......We all hovered around a very active Octopus while I took video and Pics.....AWESOME!!!! A great dive on all accounts and it wasn't long before we were scrambling back to the beach low on air! I showed a bottom time of 52 minutes with a max depth of 46 feet, and a temp of a balmy 62*.
