If I didnt know better I could have sworn I was looking at PVC joints with a marble inside...

I have a rattle, although mine is metal. It works. It's annoying.

I also have a 30cm stainless steel rod with a split ring through one end, attached to a bolt snap. I use it to bang on my tank. It works. It isn't annoying, b/c it only works when I want it to... unlike the rattle.

no doubt...(good group)...it is cheaper than my mini hammerhead...

but, to work it must keep the water out from leaking inside the pvc....which would make it bouyant as heck....which means unless you have it well secured it is going to float all around you and be a basic pain in the patuti

still a cheap solution to a non problem

Hi there,

I have something very similar to that. It is a key holder (plastic tube with o-ring seal on lid) with a marble inside. It is on a cord about a foot long. I secure it to a d-ring next to a BC pocket and tuck it into my cumberbund, until I need it. I like it because it makes a unique sound and the sound does not travel as far as a tank bang and is not confused with the signals from a DM.

Actually I'm not sure if it's a key holder, match holder for camping, or where it came from, but it's 2-3 inches long and I think I bought it for like a buck. I put some lead shot in it, which pretty much counteracts the little bouyancy it has.

It has a unique sound that's not obnoxious, and I use it occasionally to get the attention of my photographer husband - if your buddy is a photo freak, you'll understand. :)

Actually I did make some of these out of PVC pipe with some caps. Cheap and easy. Beats paying somebody else for it and it does work as an attention getter, although it can be annoying at times. Just fill with lead shot, steel bearings, or marbles.

They work really well at least the metal ones do, I don't own one and they should be banned. I spent two weeks on a liveaboard in the Red Sea and the Egyptian guide on the boat had one, by about the fourth day everyone on the boat wanted to shove it where the sun don't shine, and by the end of the first week one of the divers had stolen it and thrown it overboard, Hooray!
I can't think of anything more annoying that I have come across while diving (sugestions for more annoying dive items anyone?).
