But computers are better overall;
Probably your best bet would be to dive the tables until you get your gas consumption to where you are ending dives based on time rather than remaining gas. That gives you a chance to computer shop and get familiar with the algorithms. The NDL for 40 feet on the Navy tables is 200 minutes and I did not have to go look that up.
