Hi all,

In late July, I'm visiting RI, where I grew up. Started diving a year and a half ago; all warmwater, caribbean dives to date (pretty fortunate in that respect). At the end of this week s/b at dive #40-42 w/ 25 or so since April. I'll be working toward AOW cert in Cayman Brac this week. In early July going to do Medic First Alert in anticipation of rescue diver cert later in year or early 04.

Some might consider this experienced, but, in my opinion, its still pretty light: no experience w more than mild current, lower vis, colder water, or depths below 100-105fsw, more than 1-3 foot seas, nor more than light-moderate surge

You guys seem to do a lot of shore stuff in Jamestown, but what about offshore stuff? Does my experince suit RI off shore, in your opinion(s)? Are there any threads here to give some insight or any recommendations on operators around narragansett/point judith? Also what about other shore dives in Narra/point judith?

Call Steve or Greg Barr at Scuba Too in North Kingstown, RI 401-541-9188. They run charters.

is pretty different from Caribbean diving.....would suggest a shore dive first to get used to the heavier suit and bulkiness of hoods & gloves, etc.....plus the much lower vis.....psychologically important also!

shore dives might be ~40 fsw +/-...good enough to get a feel for the difference in conditions

A native Rhode Islander moving to Ohio! Now that's something! Are you sure they'll let you back into the state?;)

In all seriousness, a nice easy, get-acquainted-with-the- conditions dive in RI would be King's Beach in Newport. It's right off Ocean Drive which is off Bellevue Ave(where the mansions are located). Free parking, easy entry, shallow water with enough stuff to see you won't be totally bored. Nice spot for night diving, as well. Did three dives there last August. Good luck.

Here's a web site to check out further diving areas in RI:
