Hi. We are taking a family trip to Negril in Feb. and staying at Beaches Sandy Bay. With a 2 year old in tow, this seemed to make the most sense for us. I know that there is diving included in at the resort, but the limits are a bit constricting to say the least (I understand the rules, but...). I will likely dive through the resort a few times, but would like to do some deeper, longer or more challenging dives than 30 min at 40 feet. Granted, that diving is better than no diving. SO--I am trying to find a dive op to schedule a few days of something a bit less restrictive. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I was recommended to SunDivers in Negril. I haven't dove through them, as this will be my first trip to that side of the island, but in correspondence with them about doing some dives and getting some of our group certified outside of the resort, they seem very helpful and were quick to respond to my emails.

Yes, you must contact Myron and Emily at SunDivers! They are great people and will take good care of you. I dived with them and they will take good care of you.

Myron always has a smile on his face and is always having fun. But don't let his friendly attitude give you any doubts. When it comes time to dive, he is very serious about safety. I would think Myron would be an excellent instructor, if that is who does their training.

SunDivers is located at Point Village Resort which is just down Norman Manley Blvd. from Beaches S.B. Their new web site says free pickups! I have no incentive to recommend SunDivers other than I dived with Myron and Emily in the past and I think they are really great people. Tell 'em Dean sent you and says "Hello!"

I have stayed at Beaches Sandy Bay (the last wk. of July) annually for about fifteen years. Yes, the 30 mins. is a nuisance. However, if you get to know the dive guides they will take you to deeper dives.

Also, the dive boat, kept at Beaches Negril, will pick you up from the beach at Sandy Bay. Check with watersports.

There have been frequent reports of dolphin encounters. Have fun.

Hi oceancat,
Received your PM and tried to reply. Somehow it wouldn't go through. I would be happy to tell you about Negril (or any other part of Jamaica - I'm Jamaican) but tired of fighting with SB's 'timing out'. Please PM me again with your direct email address.

We dove with sundivers in negril last may. very helpful pk-ups free from your resort, they even fixed my husbands regulater (we had our own equip). they will take the more seasoned divers out longer.

Ps you will love negril, beach is perfect for kids. Ricks cafe is HIGHLY overrated but I enjoyed the sunset.

If you are staying at Beaches Sandy Bay, diving is included in the package. Negril is on the leaward side of the island so the water should be fairly calm. I spent a number of years running the watersports/scuba programs for a group of all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and can try to answer any specific questions you might have. I have photos both above and below the water in Negril on some of my websites www.divecouples.com, www.divebeaches.com, and www.divesuperclubs.com
