I am going to Cabo August 1. Can any one recommend a Dive Shop? And would it be wise to make reservations at one before we go?

I'm booked in September with Manta, down there. I've heard a lot of good things about them. Also, Underwater Diversions is supposed to be good.

(1) Welcome!

(2) I have personal experience with both Baja Dive & Land's End Divers. Both are fine. Deep Blue is also good. Lots of folks on this board like Amigos Del Mar. I can tell you that both Baja Dive & Land's End use relatively small boats with few divers. There is one shop owned/run by a Japanese family, which is very nice, but they take boatloads of divers. Don't recall the name, though.

(3) August, the locals say the water is nice and warm; minimal exposure protection needed.

(4) I personally wouldn't bother making reservations. Just wander along the Marina, wander into a shop, and make arrangements.

Do a search for posts with Cabo in the subject line (and me as poster) to get my food recommendations!

Have a great trip!!!

I was on a Cruise ship gig for 5 months, and every time we were in cabo we had a blast with Underwater Diversions. If you get Jordan as your DM, she's hot hot hot as well, a definite plus :) She also saved my butt when I stupidly inflated my BC too much in a strong surge after I couldn't equalize.... guess that puts her waaay out of my league with a terrible first impression. Well, that and the face that goes in my avatar, lol.

If you call ahead and say "I will be diving x dives on y days" they will probably make you a better deal. Tis the high season though. Good luck with it.

Beware all the street urchins in Cabo trying to sell you time chare, golf, feeshing, painted plates, crappy jewelry and damn chiclets. Even though it has been almost 9 years since I last went, I still have nightmares and wake up in cold sweats screaming; "I dont' want your stupid pinche chiclets, now stop blocking my path you mutant!!!"

The town is WAY overpriced and overrated. And the diving sucks too.....especially the joint they call "Sand Falls" where they take all the gullible gringo touristas and if the sand isn't slowly pouring over the edge, they will obligingly push it so you can watch in a stupor......nothing like paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars to watch a sand time clock.....and all that even BEFORE you get the customary violent gastrointestinal reaction.

Try the advanced diving at the Gordo Banks. I hear it rocks for pelagics.

Hello Manta Has been getting some bad reports.I like Baja Dive with the small groups They had current inspections on all of there tanks and the Dive masters were first class. They are easy to find on the marina In the Tesoro resort. www.baja-dive.net

Where are the Manta reports? I'd like to see them.

Thanks.

Oh yeah, don't you work for Baja?

Devore (if that's you), you've got a nice shop, but it's really cheesy to knock other folks & tout your own shop without disclosing that it's your own shop.

I may have to start posting that "I've had good experience in the past with Baja Dive, but the owner has really cheesy internet manners."

:mooner:

edit added: To jcsgt: Yes, Baja is D.S., the owner of Baja Dive. He's been trying to sell his shop for a number of years; just do a search on his posts. If you do a net search for "Baja Dive" (quotes included), you'll find a number of posts in other boards (and on Scubaboard) where he's trying to sell his shop. (Of course, the possibility exists that Devore did succeed in selling the shop, and the "baja" username was left to the new owner). Regardless, my comments on cheesiness stand.
