Hi any thoughts would be great.

I am looking to get my dive master dertificate out in Koh Tao in Thailand. However quite a few instructors I know in the Red Sea
say that this would not be as well reconised as if I got it in Egypt.

I too am looking at doing my DM. I think what your friends are telling you is based upon getting employment in that area. a shop is more likely to hire someone they trained themselves or in the area so they can find out about you before they hire you. So if you plan on working in the Red sea I would do it there but if not then do it wherever you want. Food for thought.

Hey,
I am looking into my DM too. The above is true, if you wanted to work in Egypt specifically then train out there.. and do it in Sept time.. it may be a hard slog because its really busy on the Red Sea at that time of year, but you will defo get a job after your DM! Having said that Thailand is much much cheaper. Infact you may get a better deal out there. I found that approaching diving centres directly and asking them about DM/job prospects etc helps.. and if you want to do it as an internship.. the course for free in return for work.. then they are more likely to employ you afterwards too... just a few ideas!
Goodluck!
PS as far as 'recognition' goes.. surely if you have the qualification on paper/card and records in ur log book... u are just as qualified as the next!!!

If you are in Thailand look up Dive Asia in Phuket and request an instructor named Nick. He is really really good, and works for SE Asia's #1 dive center.

Location is irrelevant. Knowledge and professionalism make the difference. A good instructor can help bring all of that together. I know good divers and DMs from both places.
